The Airstream was conceived as a grassroots way for us to promote the brand, connect with customers and fans, and support our retailers. Traveling the US in an Airstream adds a touch of nostalgia from our childhoods, and helps communicate our brand story in that we appreciate a time when products were designed and made with a purpose and built to last.
“..IT WAS A BLANK CANVAS…”
The trailer was acquired in Tulsa, Oklahoma and took its first inaugural trip to Dallas, Texas soon after. When it was first found, it was just a dull, tarnished piece of metal that was essentially a blank canvas, ready for transformation. To get it to its current state, there were too many hours to count that was spent polishing it to the beautiful shine it has today.
“..BUT HOW DO WE ALL GET IN?…”
Because the Airstream was being transitioned into a mobile showroom,it was important to find a way to get multiple people in and out effectively. The solution was to cut the side of the Airstream to not only create a hydraulic gull wing style entrance, but also maintain the integrity of the original door.
CLASSIC. DISTINCT. VERSATILE.
While we want people to be wowed by the outside and the branding of it, we also want them to forget that they are in an Airstream once they step inside. This is our store, and the inside had to reflect our quality standards. We created the Jack Mason brand to be classic, distinct, and versatile, and the Airstream needed to have those same characteristics.
ONE RULE: RECLAIMED MATERIALS
The flooring is one of our favorite details, as every piece is unique. By using reclaimed wood, each piece was laid in a way that resembled a basketball court. For continuity in materials, each fixture inside the Airstream is either an antique, or custom built using reclaimed wood and metal. With handmade fixtures and finishes, the Airstream is set up perfectly to showcase our brand and the product that goes with it.
When co-founder, Michael Reese, first saw the completed Airstream he immediately called his business partner, Craig Carter and said, “Whatever your expectation was for the Airstream, this blows it out of the water.” It’s our hopes that our customers feel the exact same way.
NOT A FOOD TRUCK
Yes. We have been asked if we were selling tacos, dogs, beverages, and other types of food groups. It’s pretty unconventional to sell watches and leather goods out of an Airstream, but we love elements of surprise which is what Jack Mason is about. This ideology flows throughout the brand from the Airstream to the product we make. Oh, and check out that gullwing door!
